The river is the longest in the Ragusa Province: its source is on the slopes of “Monte Lauro” (a now inactive volcano) and ends after a long journey at the Mediterranean Sea. In ancient times, it was used as the fastest way to travel from the interior to the coastal regions and it has always been a place where trade took place. The Reserve was established in 1985 and is managed by the province of Ragusa. It is a haven of peace where you can observe typical Mediterranean flora.
The route consists of four paths: Path of Carob, the mulberry trail, the behind the dunes trail and the Regia Trazzera trail, along which we will come in contact with uncontaminated nature, colours and scents which are difficult to forget.
